In Now That's Flower Power!, a Coordinator's Poochyena was in the Slateport City Pokémon Center. In All Things Bright and Beautifly!, a Coordinator's Poochyena competed in the Rustboro Contest.
In A Bite to Remember, Brock's demonstration featured a Poochyena evolving into a Mightyena. It reappeared in a flashback in Not Too Close for Comfort!. However, it was defeated by Jacqueline's Inteleon. In Sobble Spies a Stealthy Strategy!, Jessie pulled a Poochyena from the Rocket Prize Master to battle Ash and Goh. In An Explosive Operation!, a Team Flare Grunt used a Poochyena during a Team Flare effort to capture Z2. They then joined in the fight against Team Rocket's mecha. In Grass Hysteria!, Old Man Obee's three Poochyena tracked down Ash and May after they got lost in the Forbidden Forest. In A Six Pack Attack!, a wild Poochyena assisted Professor Birch in finding Professor Oak, May, and Max. In The Blue Badge of Courage, the Gym Badge thieves used a Poochyena and a Zigzagoon to battle Misty's Psyduck and Sakura's Espeon, but both were defeated. He eventually helped it evolve and become a protector of the preserve. In A Bite to Remember, Max befriended a Poochyena belonging to Katrina. They attacked Professor Birch when he got separated from Ash, similarly to what happened in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire. Multiple Poochyena debuted in Get the Show on the Road.
This Pokémon lives in grasslands, savannas, and forests. If its prey strikes back, it may turn tail. Known for its tenacious nature, it chases after prey until the victim becomes exhausted. It takes a bite at anything that moves and makes the hair on its tail bristle out to try to intimidate its foes. Poochyena has a very keen sense of smell, allowing it to find and chase its prey with ease. Poochyena has gray paw pads on its three-toed paws. The fur at the base of its tail is rumpled and shaggy. Its lower jaw has two pointed teeth sticking out. Its eyes are red with yellow sclerae, and it has a red nose. Its body is primarily gray with a black face and throat, paws, and belly.
